Job Description:

Kitchen Helper supports the kitchen team by assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, organizing kitchen areas, and ensuring smooth daily kitchen operations. The role requires a strong work ethic, attention to hygiene standards, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks.
  • Wash, peel, cut, and prepare vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen areas, workstations, and equipment.
  • Wash and sanitize kitchen utensils, cookware, and equipment.
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing food supplies.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of food items according to hygiene standards.
  • Support kitchen staff during busy service periods.
  • Maintain cleanliness of refrigerators, storage areas, and preparation areas.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Assist with garbage disposal and maintain cleanliness of waste areas.
  • Ensure kitchen tools and equipment are available and properly arranged.
  • Assist with stock rotation and follow FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
  • Support chefs with any additional tasks assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Kitchen Helper, Steward, Commis Assistant, or similar role is preferred.
  • Experience in a hotel, restaurant, or hospitality environment will be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen operations and food hygiene practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Good physical stamina and ability to work in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Willingness to learn and develop culinary skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Good personal hygiene and a positive attitude.
  • Basic English communication skills; Sinhala/Tamil language skills will be an advantage.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen sanitation procedures.
  • Experience supporting professional chefs in a hotel or restaurant environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak service periods.
  • Strong teamwork and reliability.
